Amanda Persaud PH.D.

Currently accepting new clients

I'm Dr. Amanda (she/her), a licensed clinical psychologist in New York. I work with people navigating anxiety, relationship concerns, and life transitions who may find themselves overthinking, being hard on themselves, or feeling stuck in patterns they can't seem to break.

My approach combines warmth and collaboration with practical, evidence-based strategies to help you better understand yourself, navigate challenges with greater confidence, and build a life that feels more fulfilling and aligned with who you are.

MY APPROACH

My approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and tailored to who you are and what you need. Drawing from evidence-based approaches like CBT, psychodynamic therapy, DBT, ACT, and mindfulness, I help you understand the patterns that keep you stuck, navigate difficult emotions and relationships, and build a stronger connection to yourself. As a woman of color, I bring a culturally attuned perspective to my work, recognizing how race, identity, family, relationships, and the world around us shape our experiences and sense of self. My practice is grounded in affirming, anti-racist, and feminist-informed care, with an appreciation for how art, storytelling, and culture can deepen self-understanding. Above all, I want therapy to be a place where you feel understood as a whole person and supported in creating a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling.

Leadership & Community Engagement

My interest in psychology extends beyond individual therapy to the broader social and cultural forces that shape our lives. Throughout my career, I’ve been drawn to opportunities to mentor others, support educational growth, and contribute to conversations about mental health, cultural identity, and social issues. My past experiences include mentoring students, engaging in psychology advocacy through the American Psychological Association at the United Nations and the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, and exploring how psychological research can inform public policy and improve well-being. These experiences reflect my belief that understanding people means looking beyond the individual to the relationships, communities, and systems that shape their experiences.

A Little About Me Outside the Therapy Room

  • Exploring NYC’s art museums, galleries, & cultural scene

  • Making art & finding inspiration in different creative mediums

  • Practicing hot yoga/pilates, getting to the gym, or finding ways to slow down & reconnect

  • Sharing good food, conversation, & quality time with friends & family

  • Taking long walks with Winston, my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy & unofficial co-therapist
